Deltablastus ewini

Deltablastus was an echinoderm belonging to the class Blastoidea.

The blastoids They are a class of small echinoderms known only in fossil form. They lived attached to the seabed by a stem and fed by filtering water. Their bodies were protected by a set of strongly welded and interlocked calcareous plates forming a solid theca with pentarradial symmetry, with the mouth in the center, surrounded by ambulacra arranged as petals and supporting filtering organs, called brachioles, as well as respiratory pores that lead to hydrospires that form a complex respiratory system. This theca was located at the end of a stem formed by intertwined circular elements (as in crinoids with a stem), the other end was fixed to the substrate.
