Onchopristis dunklei SOLD

Onchopristis is a gender extinct from sawfish giant who lived during the Upper Cretaceous, belongs to the order rhinoprisiformes which are stripes, cartilaginous fish related to the sharks, which includes paddlefish rays and related groups. Onchopristis had an elongated, shovel-shaped snout aligned on both sides with barbed, hook-shaped teeth. It was very large, measuring about 10 meters in length when fully developed. Onchopristis's eyes were located on the top of its head, to be able to locate its predators rather than its prey, while its mouth and gills were located on the lower part of its body. The females would probably be larger than the males, and would weigh between 1 – 1.5 tons. He rostrum and snout, it was about 3 meters long, with teeth like hooks. ​ In the type species, O. numidus, each tooth had a beard, while in O. dunklei there were two or five on each tooth. The face most likely must have possessed electroreceptors, to be able to detect their food underwater like modern sharks. Onchopristis may have raked riverbeds to find and then devour prey.
