The problematic colonial organism Webbyites it had previously been considered a hydroid (phylum Cnidaria). Later a new species was described, webbyites felix sp. nov., from the Fezouata site of the Lower Ordovician of Morocco. The presence of a stolon system indicates that W. felix sp. nov. It is not a hydroid, since hydroids do not have stolons. A stolon system is also present in W. rokycanensis and is a strong indication of affinity with graptolites. The stolons were like internal organic tubes that interconnected the zooids (individuals of the colony) within the theca (external structure or "house" of the zooid, it would be an internal anatomical structure for the connection and nutrition of the zooids in the fossil colony. The presence of a stolon system indicates that Webbyites is a benthic graptolite. Webbyites lacks bitecae; therefore, it is not a dendroid graptolite. We conclude that Webbyites is a benthic graptolite of uncertain affinity.
