Age: Oligocene-Rupelian.

Location: Bois d´Asson, Manosque, Alps de Haute Provence, France.

Plate measures: 10 cm x 6,2 cm

This leaf belongs to an old collection, which together with the rest of the specimens, represent a complete collection of the Manosque flora.

The Manosque fossil flora appears to have originated from a large subtropical lake with water lilies and lotus plants, bordered by banks with ferns, reeds, etc. In the surrounding forests there were laurels, some palm trees and many other subtropical trees. Also grew, perhaps on the slopes of the mountains, oaks, birches, beech and other trees that needed a somewhat more moderate climate. In autumn and winter, the storms tore the leaves that fell into the water and were transported to the lake where they were embedded in the mud.
