Age: Permian-Autunian.

Otovicia was one of the first conifers. The conifers are gymnosperms, the name comes from the Greek γυμνός 'desnudo', and σπέρμα 'seed'; That is, 'naked seed'. This term is applied because the seeds of these plants do not form in a closed ovary (that is, a pistil that evolve to a fruit, as in angiosperms), but are bare.
