Asteriacites are ichnofossils that have been identified as resting traces made by ophiuroid and asteroidean echinoderms.

These marks are produced by echinoderms when they rest buried or semi-buried in the sandy substrate where the transverse marks that sometimes appear would correspond to tube feet. The mucus secreted by these animals contributes to the preservation of the trace.
