Calamites was a arboreal horsetail, which could measure up to twenty or thirty meters in height, striated on the surface and articulated, with a well-defined knot-internode succession similar to that of modern horsetails, its branches and leaves emerged in whorls from these nodes. The leaf of these plants belongs to the genera Annularia y Asterophyllites.
