Chiton is a polyplacophorous mollusk, that is, it has many plates. Its shell is divided into eight transverse and imbricated plates. They are all similar, except for the first and last ones called cephalic and anal. They are bilaterally symmetrical, with an ovoid body, considerably flattened dorsoventrally. The coat is very strong, and the foot is wide and flat to facilitate attachment to the hard substrate.
