Coscinopora infundibuliformis is a sponge belonging to the unusual class Hexactinellida with a very regular and visible arrangement of pores. It forms bell-shaped funnels of considerable diameter.

Hexactinellids are commonly known as vitreous sponges. They are sponges whose mineral skeleton is composed of siliceous spicules with six rays that intersect at right angles, known as hexactins, which gives its name to the group.
