Lychnus collombi

The fossils of Lichnus collombi found in Fortanete, are lake fossils characteristic of deposits of the Eocene, means that at end of the Cretaceous there was an uplift enough to have laid a part of the Peninsula dry. On this emerged ground, the sea was replaced by masses of fresh water. All freshwater fossils found on the plateau are from the Miocene or Pliocene and all deposits found under Miocene soils lack fossils. Only two locations are shown to us by Segura de Aragón and Fortanete. And they are the Lychnus those that demonstrate the existence of lakes in the Eocene, which is why their presence is important.
