Pholidophorus (from Greek pholis, "horny scale", and phéro, "to bear") is an extinct genus of teleost fish, had many primitive features, such as ganoid scales (layered, sandwich-like structure, with a basal layer of lamellar bone, a layer of spongy bone with blood vessels, a layer of dentin, and an outer layer of enamel) and a vertebral column that was partially made of cartilage, rather than bone tissue.
