The Merlucciidae Family is made up of benthopelagic fish, which live at a preferential maximum depth of 500 m: planktivorous and piscivorous. Merlucciidae has a feeding association with the pelagic zone (daily vertical migration). In the studies carried out, the result is that the depth of the paleoenvironment of the Bahía Inglesa Formation ranged between 50-500 m deep.
